Temperatures in Washington have been well below average to start November. According to the National Weather Service, in the first week of November the average temperature was 34.8 degrees in Washington, about 10 degrees below normal. On Thursday the average temperature was nearly 20 degrees below normal. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen says now is the time to get your car ready for winter and to put supplies in it, “So you’ll always want to have, a lot of the things you want any time of the year anyway, your three-day kit. So you’ve got water, food, flashlights, kitty litter in the winter, an extra snow shovel in case you get stuck somewhere, phone chargers. I’m a big proponent of the solar powered charges for your phones so that you’re not using, you know if you’ve got the charger that plugs into your car that’s still going to drain some of your car’s power. So if you can utilize exterior sources for power that’s always a great option. You also want to have all of your extra hats, gloves, socks, and boots.”

A brief warm up of conditions is expected this weekend before a chance of snow Sunday night, and a drop of cooler weather early next week. Monday and Tuesday the thermometer isn’t expected to get above freezing. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
