Inching closer to a state tournament bid is at stake tonight in Wayland, as the WACO volleyball team welcomes North Mahaska for a class 1A regional quarterfinal game.

The Warriors are 22-11 and rolled in their first round match sweeping Highland. Laney Graber is third in the SEISC-South division in assists with 671 and Aubri Garnsey is third in digs with 482. The Warhawks are 16-11 and defeated Sigourney in four sets on Tuesday. Karlee Chandler has 470 assists and that is second in the South Iowa Cedar League. WACO head coach Jay Coble tells KCII Sports what we can expect from the Warhawks. “They don’t have a lot of size, but they have good serve receivers and play solid defense. They are a hardworking team. We played them in a tournament and they were always playing tough.” WACO swept North Mahaska in two close games at that tournament last month.

The action gets underway at 7 p.m. in Wayland. The winner will play either New London or Keota on Thursday.
