Excessive rainfall last week limited Iowa’s farmers to 1.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The National Agricultural Statistics Service states very little harvesting happened this past week as farmers wait for drier weather and field conditions to improve. Iowa’s corn is now nearly three weeks behind last year with 52% reaching maturity. In southeast Iowa, 88% of corn has dented and 60% is mature. Iowa’s soybean crop is 10 days behind average with 68% dropping leaves. In southeast Iowa, 52% of soybeans have started to drop leaves and four percent of soybeans have been harvested.
