Mid-Prairie second grader Gabby Yoder will be the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s Kid Captain for the Hawkeyes match up against Penn State Saturday. Yoder will receive a commemorative jersey as well as special recognition from the Iowa Hawkeyes. She has already received a special behind-the-scenes tour of Kinnick Stadium. Gabby’s mother Abbie Yoder tells KCII news that the support her family has been shown by their community helps to keep her going, “When people are with you in the darkest times and give up time with their families to help your child…when people save your kids life and make it a beautiful life…there is no way to say thank you. But we are so grateful to live in this community and near a hospital that treats these kids like their own.” 

The elementary will host an all school assembly to celebrate the occasion with students encouraged to come wearing Hawkeye colors Friday at 2:40 p.m.
