Preparations are underway for the 2019 Washington High School Homecoming to be held later this month. The Washington City Council recently approved the parade route, which will include Sitler Drive from the high school and then north up Iowa Avenue and around Central Park. The parade will be the afternoon of Friday, September 27th.

Council person Elaine Moore did express some concern for a problem she’s seen the last few years with spectators getting too close to parade floats, “It’s great tradition and I have nothing against Homecoming parades, but there has been some concerns expressed to downtown and control of the kids that are just coming in. I don’t know what the answer is. I did mention it to Chief Lester about that, and I don’t know if there is an answer. But it is getting, as a group that does put a float in the parade, the drivers are getting more and more nervous about driving through because the kids are getting closer and closer.” Mayor Jaron Rosien also encourages anyone tossing candy to throw it away from the vehicles. Council person Danielle Pettit-Majewski said another solution is to have people walk alongside your float handing candy safely away from the moving vehicles.

The annual Spirit Night which includes coronation will be September 26th. And the dance will be Saturday, September 28th at the high school.
