While everyone else in the state will strap up the pads on nine fall Fridays, the Columbus Community football team supports a rare 10-game regular season schedule that starts this week.

The Wildcats did not have a scrimmage scheduled for this Friday and Cardinal was a team that only had eight games scheduled after one of their opponent’s dropped out. The state granted the Wildcats a waiver to play them in a week zero game that allowed the Comets to fulfill their nine-game schedule and Columbus an extra night on the gridiron. In his first year as head coach, Tyler Kibbee looks to rebuild a program that went 0-9 last season. After the graduation of Chance Colby, Bawi UK will take over under center in his sophomore campaign. He completed seven passes for 135 yards as a freshman. UK will have plenty of weapons to throw to with their top five receivers returning including Will Schwab and his 144 receiving yards with three scores.  Schwab is also the leading tackler back with 68 a year ago.

The Wildcats host the Comets Friday night at 7 p.m. to open the year.
