Qualify for state, rinse, and repeat. That trend continued for the Washington girls’ golf team this past spring, as they qualified for another state appearance and the story checks in at number two on our top 10 countdown of the best sports stories from the 2018-2019 academic year.

On May 20th the Demons traveled to Central DeWitt for a regional final seeking another bid to the big dance and they did just that. Washington bested the whole field with a 371 in the 18-hole meet led by meet-medalist Kiki Guo with a 78. The Demons then went on to finish sixth out of 10 teams in the class 3A state meet in Ankeny. Guo was the headliner finishing fourth with a 36-hole score of 153. Other counted scores included Josie Tanner with 183, Emily Waite with 196, and Carly Burlingame with 218. Expect the tradition of Demon girls golf to continue in 2020, as they lose just Burlingame to graduation. Tomorrow our top 10 countdown culminates with the number one story when it takes us to the wrestling mat.
