KCII area athletes flocked to the Blue Oval this past May and plenty came home with hardware. That story checks in at number two on our top 10 countdown of the best sports stories from the 2018-2019 academic year for area schools.

Many individuals cracked the top eight in their event including seven that conquered a top three finish. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Brandon Snowden showed off his blazing speed finishing second in the 200m (22.51) and third in the 100m (11.39) for class 1A. Sigourney’s Summer Barthelman closed out her career with a second place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:05.11) and third in the 400m (58.14) while Payton Schauf on the boys’ side had a third place heave in the discus (150’11’’). Emily Yahnke did some damage for Highland placing second in the long jump (17’4’’) and third in the 4x100m relay (51.09) along with Aly Stokes, Sarah Schneider, and Kristy Thomann.

Tomorrow our top 10 countdown comes to a close when we look at our number one story on the wrestling mat.
