An edge of your seat football thriller checks in as the third best sports story on our top 10 countdown at Washington from the 2018-2019 academic year.

The date was September 14thwith the 1-2 Demons set to take on 1-2 West Liberty at Case Field for homecoming. Both teams were desperate for a win and it played out like it, as they traded punches the entire way. Chances were bleak for the Demons being down three with under a minute left and deep in their own territory. The drive of the year ensued, as they marched right down the field headlined by a 55-yard bomb from Luke Turner to Cade Hennigan that set up a game-tying field goal from Logan Escher to send the game to overtime. The Demons got the ball first in the extra period and immediately scored on a Turner to Chase McDole connection. The stingy defense came up big creating a wall around the goal line to stymie the Comet offense and come away with an exciting 34-27 victory. Head Coach James Harris told KCII Sports his team had some help in that final stop. “We practice goal line stops and I just can’t help but think that my recently passed away father was helping us out there. We had 12 guys down at the goal line to make the stop.”

The Demons would go on to have a 6-3 year and win six of their final seven contests. Check back in tomorrow for number two on our countdown when we take a look at another magical girls golf season.
