All track coaches preach peaking at the right time and for the Washington boys’ track team this past spring they did just that. The sixth best sports story for Washington from the 2018-2019 academic year takes us back to a successful state-qualifying meet.

On May 10thin Mount Pleasant the Demons ran wild en route to a second place finish as a team. Seven events qualified for the state meet headlined by Ethan Hunt and Mitchell Driscoll being a part of three of them. The night ended with a bang in the 4x400m relay when Hunt started the anchor leg in third before making up 15 meters of ground to seize the top spot. Hunt told KCII Sports what was going through his head when he received the baton. “Since I was in third place the only thing on my mind was catching the guy in front of me. That last 150 meters my mindset was to give it all I have and see what happens.” At the Blue Oval the following week both the boys and girls came home with medals including seniors Jenah Greiner seventh in the long jump, Isabel Bailey eighth in the long jump, Driscoll eighth in the 400m, and the junior Hunt sixth in the 400m hurdles.

Check back in Monday for number five on our countdown when we look at the girls’ soccer season.
