A Swedesburg man is dead after crashing a crop duster plane in Bremer County.

Sumner Police state that 56-year-old David Baker of Swedesburg was the pilot of a plane that crashed Thursday morning. The crash occurred at 7:22 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 1st Street/Highway 93 in Sumner city limits. When emergency crews arrived on scene the single-engine plane was engulfed in flames.

Authorities confirm Baker did not survive. No one else was injured in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the ongoing investigation. The Sumner Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department, Sumner Emergency Medical Services, Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Bremer County Emergency Management, Iowa DOT, Bremer REC, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
