The Southeast Iowa Super Conference featured some of the best softball pitchers in the state this summer and many of them were in the KCII area. The sixth best sports story for KCII area schools from the 2018-2019 academic year is the work of a few area hurlers.

Winfield-Mt. Union’s Madie Anderson, Lone Tree’s Abby Buckman, and Highland’s Megan Hoenig dominated the league and were all awarded All-Conference because of it. Anderson, a first-team selection, was a workhorse in her sophomore campaign with a league most 163 1/3 innings in the circle, 290 strikeouts, and a minuscule 1.84 ERA. Buckman etched herself into Lone Tree lore breaking the career strikeout record in just her junior season. She had 157 strikeouts this year and 2.64 ERA in 116 2/3 innings that also led to a first-team pitcher selection. Hoenig was a second-team All-Conference honoree with a 1.87 ERA in 127 frames. The accurate senior walked just eight batters all year while striking out 106. All three pitchers were in the top five for most wins in the division. Check back in Monday for number five on our countdown when we look at another Highland softball player in a record-breaking season.
