With sports betting becoming legal in Iowa, changes are coming to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation board. Iowa code states that the board of directors of a qualified sponsoring organization licensed to operate gambling games shall include an ex officio, non-voting member of the city council and county board of supervisors. Executive assistant to the board Patty Koller said the WCRF board is lining up those members now, “What it is saying to us is that we need to have a Board of Supervisor on our board, a non-voting member. Our terms are three years in duration, so the ex-officio member would also be a three-year term. We have, as our board has decided that we will have a member of the city council of the Riverside City Council to start with, the first three-year term. I spoke with them (Monday) night and two of them expressed interest in joining our group, so their names are going to our board and then we will select one of them.” The board of supervisors nominated Bob Yoder and Richard Young for consideration. Sports betting begins this month.
