Recreational fireworks were the cause of a fire near the Oakland Mills Dam south of Mt. Pleasant. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:15 p.m. on July 12th there was an active fire near the south beach at the Oakland Mills camping area along the Skunk River. After investigating, the source of the fire was determined to be fireworks. Several individuals were charged for the use of fireworks outside the dates allowed including Trenton Saner, Tanner Helmick, Brandon Hart, Levi Stevens, Jordan Matheney, and Tyler Nelson. There were no injuries or property damage. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, and the Henry County Conservation Office assisted in the case.
