While the U.S. Unemployment rose slightly to 3.7% in June, Iowa’s remained at 2.4%. According to Iowa Workforce Development, the number of unemployed Iowans increased from 40,700 in May to 41,400 in June. That is still an estimated 800 lower than the level a year ago. In Iowa in June there were 1,676,700 working Iowans. Iowa Workforce Development Director Beth Townsend said, “June marks a milestone for Iowa’s historically low unemployment rate, making this the twelfth consecutive month of 2.4 percent unemployment. Additionally, Iowa experienced positive growth with 5,600 new jobs.” She added that with sustained low unemployment rates, it is important for the state to attract skilled workers to Iowa.
