midprairie-3

Two River Valley Conference baseball opponents will try to get one step closer to the state tournament by night’s end, as Mid-Prairie welcomes West Branch to Wellman for a class 2A district championship game.

The Golden Hawks took care of business in the semis with an 11-1 victory over West Liberty that followed a 14-7 win for the Bears over Regina. The two squads split a doubleheader earlier in the year and head coach Andy Greiner tells KCII Sports it will be a tussle. “West Branch is a really good hitting team and our pitchers will be challenged. We have all of our pitching options on the table and we are looking forward to the game.” Mid-Prairie comes in with an 18-11 record and are led by Brad Tornow with a 0.96 ERA and .430 batting average. The Bears are 18-7 and have a .335 team batting average led by Brady Lukavsky with .457.

All of the action from Wellman gets underway at 7 p.m. Listen to the game on AM 1380 and FM 102.5 KCII starting at 6:30 p.m.
