washington-baseball-2-2

The new season has arrived for the Washington baseball team, as they open the class 3A playoffs tonight hosting Mount Vernon.

The Demons closed the regular season winning eight of their final nine games with a 21-8 record including a 7-4 victory over Burlington on Tuesday. Washington pitching has been solid all season supporting a .173 opponent batting average that ranks fourth in class 3A. Kole Hinrichsen, Ethan Patterson, and Luke Turner each have a sub-2.0 ERA and Turner has racked up a .419 batting average offensively.

The Mustangs are 18-14 and finished fourth in the WaMac east division. Pitching depth is not a problem for Mount Vernon, as they have six hurlers that have tossed at least 25 innings this year led by Kale Merrill with a 1.68 ERA. Tyler Elliot leads the team with a .429 batting average.

The chance to move on gets started around 7 p.m. following the conclusion of game one between Davenport Assumption and Keokuk. Listen to the game on FM 106.1 KCII starting at 6:30 p.m.
