The final tune-ups before the playoffs were earlier this week for the Washington baseball team, as they split a pair of games to end the regular season.

On Monday the Demons recognized five seniors on senior night and fell to Oskaloosa 3-2 in 10 innings. Brant Stout produced the only hit of the night for a quiet Demon offense, but they were able to take advantage of 10 walks. They led 2-1 after five when the Indians tied it up in the sixth and eventually scratched across a run in the 10thfor the win. Demon pitching combined to give up just five hits and 15 strikeouts. Chase McDole went 4 2/3 innings giving up one earned run on two hits.

The Demons turned around on Tuesday and downed future Southeast Conference opponent Burlington by a 7-4 tally. Washington took advantage of early Grayhound errors to build a 6-0 lead through four innings. Burlington made a push late plating a pair of runs in the seventh, but Mitchell Driscoll came in and recorded the final three outs for the save. Washington had six hits led by Trevor Quigley going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Cade Hennigan picked up the win in 4 1/3 innings giving up two earned runs and five knocks.

Washington moves to 21-8 and the new season starts tomorrow when they host Mount Vernon (18-14) for a class 3A first round district game.
