The recent weather has been taking a toll on local roads.

Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius says that the high temperatures have caused an issue with pavement buckling. Thorius explains what it is about the heat that creates a problem with the pavement, “The heat causes the concrete pavement to expand. At some point in time, it may find a weak spot in the pavement, and lifts up, and buckles, and destroys part of the pavement. These blow-ups happen and we appreciate people calling them in, letting the safety center know or our staff know.”

Thorius adds that his crews have been working to tackle all the pavement issues as quickly as they get them with temporary patching.
