On the eve of Independence Day the Mid-Prairie softball team will be on the diamond when they host River Valley Conference rival Monticello in Kalona on Wednesday. Mid-Prairie comes into the game with an overall record of 8-19 after splitting with Wilton on Tuesday. For the season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .231 as a team, led by Cassidy Rourke with a .330 average. In the circle, Mid-Prairie has a 5.54 team ERA led by Rourke with a 5.16 ERA and 4-9 overall record in 92 innings.

Montcello comes into the game with an overall record of 12-20. Last time out they won two of three games at the Northeast Tournament on Saturday. For the year, the Panthers are hitting .275 as a team, led by Tori McDonald with a .333 average. In the circle the Panthers have a collective ERA of 3.48, led by Jaelynn Kraus with a 6-14 overall record and 3.18 ERA in 136 innings. These two teams met a year ago with Monticello taking a 4-3 win.
