Washington County has a new Veterans Affairs Commissioner. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting the appointment of Carrie Rich was approved. She served in Afghanistan in 2011 to 2012 and was a parachute rigger. County Veterans Service Officer Sue Rich says she is qualified for the role, “She is a six-year Army veteran. She was in Afghanistan for one year. She currently works at Oakdale, the Iowa Medical Classification Center. She’s active in 4-H and the Washington County Freedom Rock project. She coaches youth soccer, volleyball, and t-ball. She’s willing to speak out on behalf of the younger, not just the younger generation of veterans, but hopefully also get them involved in some other activities that she’s willing to spearhead.”

The board also acknowledged the nine years of service of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Darren Dennler.
