The Fairfield softball team completed the season sweep of Washington last night winning a pair of Southeast Conference games 4-3 and 5-3 heard live on KCII.

In game one the Demons had a tough time getting anything going against Trojan hurler Allison Rebling, who went seven strong frames giving up just six hits and three runs. Washington did find some success in the third trailing 1-0 when Alexa Mitchell got the team on the board with a RBI single followed by a two RBI double from Haylee Wilson. That 3-1 advantage quickly disappeared when the Trojans scored once in the third and two in the fifth to take the lead for good. Molly Sparks was the losing pitcher despite going four innings giving up four hits and one earned run. Wilson finished 2-for-3 at the dish.

In the nightcap the Demons bats were cold with only one base runner in the first four innings and they quickly dug themselves a 5-0 hole. The first Demon threat came in the fifth when Kinsey Duwa brought in a run on a walk and Kellie Dallmeyer had a run scoring single to cut the deficit to 5-2. With the bases loaded Kaitlyn Mitchell got robbed of a base hit on the left field line by a Danielle Breen diving grab to end the inning. Washington put traffic on the base paths again in the seventh but couldn’t capitalize in a 5-3 defeat. Sparks was 2-for-2 with a walk and Alexa Mitchell picked up the loss tossing 4 1/3 innings of five run ball giving up seven hits.

The Trojans beat the Demons in all four games in 2019 by just a combined 10 runs. Washington falls to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in league play. They look to rebound tomorrow at Mid-Prairie in a single game that can be heard on KCII.
