In no lack of entertainment the Washington softball team walked away with a doubleheader split against Mount Pleasant on Thursday night in a pair of games heard live on KCII.

In game one, the Demons peppered 24 hits but came out on the losing end of a 13-10 ballgame. The Panthers got three in the top of the first only to have Washington answer with four of their own in the bottom half headlined by a two RBI double from Kaitlyn Mitchell. The back and forth theme continued for much of the game until three runs in the seventh by Mount Pleasant broke a 10-10 tie. The Demons struggled defensively with eight errors and Alexa Mitchell took the loss in the circle despite going three innings of just giving up three hits. Molly Sparks and Haylee Wilson were raking at the plate each going 5-for-5 and Kelley Dallmeyer was 4-for-4 with a walk.

In game two, the defense improved and Cara Linnenkamp turned the tide on the Panther bats en route to a 9-5 win. The sophomore went all seven innings in the circle giving up five runs on five hits and only getting into trouble in one inning. With Washington leading 3-0 in the fifth, the Panthers put up a five spot in the top half of the inning only to have the Demons answer right back with six in the bottom half including a two RBI single from Linnenkamp to retake the lead for good. Linnenkamp finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and Dallmeyer had a pair of singles with one run knocked in. Dallmeyer tells KCII Sports Linnenkamp was huge for the team. “She has been outstanding. She has been working hard on her change-up and curve ball so kudos to her.”

Washington moved to 8-6 on the season and gets right back on the diamond today traveling to Creston for a tournament.
