The Mid-Prairie baseball team hosted West Liberty at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader Thursday night.

West Liberty took the first contest 3-2 while Mid-Prairie rebounded to get the second 7-5. In game one it was West Liberty that broke through first, scoring a single run in the top of the second, only to see the Hawks answer with one of their own when Cale Robertson drove in Keegan Gingerich to tie the game. West Liberty would rally for single tallies in each of the fourth and fifth innings to put Mid-Prairie down a pair late. The Golden Hawks put the pressure on late, scoring once in the seventh, but left the tying run 90 feet away to fall 3-2. Caleb Wulf got the win for West Liberty. Brody Miller took the loss for Mid-Prairie on the hill. Robertson had a hit and an RBI while Gingerich and Brad Tornow each scored runs.

In game two, each team got the offense going early with the Comets scoring once and Mid-Prairie answering with Colton Hobbs driving in Tornow on a base hit. The Golden Hawks took the lead with a three run second, highlighted by a two RBI double from Vinny Bowlin. Up 4-1, Mid-Prairie answered every time the Comets applied pressure the rest of the way, scoring one in the third on a Brody Miller RBI single that drove in Kayden Reinier and twice in the fifth when Reinier drove in Monte Slabaugh and Colton Hobbs with a knock. Keegan Gingerich recorded the win on the mound for Mid-Prairie with Reinier collecting the save and a three for four night at the plate. With the split, the Hawks are 2-1 on the year and will next be in action Tuesday at North Cedar.
