The boys of summer from Iowa Mennonite are back on the diamond for the first time in 2019 Tuesday when they travel to Danville to open the Southeast Iowa Superconference season.

IMS is coming off of their second straight district championship and substate appearance a season ago, with an overall mark of 16-10. Offensively, IMS returns four of their top five hitters by the numbers, including Eli Ours who hit .362 as a freshman to lead a team that hit .260 overall. On the mound, IMS returns their 1-2-3 punch in the starting rotation with seniors Blake Bontrager and Trevor Leyden and junior Drew Blauvelt. A year ago the three combined for a 12-7 overall record, 100 innings thrown and an ERA just over three.

Danville is coming off of a season that saw them finish with a 2-21 overall record with wins coming over Van Buren and Winfield-Mt. Union. The Bears hit .181 as a team and had a 7.54 ERA. Cam Edle was best for Danville last year, hitting .273 as a freshman. Leading returner on the mound is Reid Yaley who finished last year with 26 innings thrown and a 6.38 ERA with an 0-4 record. These teams met once last year with IMS taking a 17-2 win. Action begins tonight at 6p.m.
