The stakes rise today on the links, as area teams duke it out in a class 1A district meet at Blue Top Ridge for a chance to punch their ticket to state.

Sigourney and Winfield-Mt. Union both qualified for the event after finishing one-two at the sectional in New London last week. Sigourney shot a 346 and were led by meet-medalist Dustin Haines with a score of 73. Nolan Ross paced the Wolves with an 83 to add to a 353-team score. Both squads could be near the top by day’s end, as Sigourney has the second best 18-hole average amongst all teams competing with 341 and WMU is third with 352. Iowa Valley has the top average on the season with 338. IMS’ Trevor Leyden will also compete after qualifying as an individual shooting a 90 last week and having an 85 season average.

Other teams participating today include HLV, English Valleys, Midland, Easton Valley, Lisbon, Don Bosco, and Central City.

The chance to advance to the state meet gets underway at 9 a.m. this morning at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside.
