A firearm was recovered at Washington High School on Tuesday. According to Superintendent Willie Stone, the district received information that a student at the school may be in possession of a gun. The district immediately contacted law enforcement and began to follow up on the information.

It was determined that a student was in possession of a firearm on school grounds. According to Stone, there was no threat to the safety of students or faculty. The student is in custody and is being charged with possession of stolen property and carrying a weapon. The name of the student has not been released.

The Washington Community School District was aided by the Washington Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
