The 2019 track season is in the rearview for Washington middle school athletes, as they closed the year at the Southeast Conference meet in Fort Madison on Tuesday.

The 8th grade girls’ team placed second out of seven teams. The Demons captured five titles including Alex Murphy in the shot put (28’2’’); Makenna Conrad in the long jump (14’6’’) and a new school record in the 400m (1:01.08); Grace Voss in the high jump (4’9’’); and a new school record from Molly Klinzman in the 100m hurdles (17.03). Second place events include Conrad in the 200m (28.59), the 4x200m (2:09.26), 4x800m (12:01.74), and shuttle hurdle relay team (1:18.57).

The 7th grade team finished third on the evening and also set two new school records including the champion shuttle hurdle relay team (2:08.03) and Remy Messinger’s third place finish in the 100m hurdles (18.02). Other first place finishes included Rylee Libe in the discus (63’4’’); Audrey Anderson in the long jump (13’11.5’’); and the 4x100m relay (57.38). Other top performances included the 4x200m in second (2:09.13) and the 4x400m in third (4:53.99).

Both teams also competed at the state meet in Ankeny last week and notable finishes included Alex Murphy fourth in the shot put (27’5.5’’); Molly Klinzman fifth in the 200m hurdles (32.07); and the 7th grade 4x100m relay in fourth (58.29).
