Four Iowa FFA Degrees made their way back to Washington this week. The State FFA Contest was held and Washington High School’s Leah Marek, David Hora, Hailey Shultz, and Ellie Todd received their Iowa FFA Degrees. These are the highest degree the Iowa FFA Association awards members.

FFA Advisor Trent Steinhart says it provides skills and opportunities for students that reach beyond a classroom, “Why I believe it’s important is because there are a lot of experiences that students get within job training, with career skills that they gain that they’ll use later in life. And communication skills that they get from different events that it’s hard to get those same experiences from inside the classroom. So, having this intra-curricular opportunity allows students to get some of those skills that would be hard to achieve within a classroom.”

Washington also had students compete at the event. In the team agriculture sales category Todd, Sophie Bell, Noah Kleese, and Charlie Henriksen received silver ratings. Shultz received a bronze rating for her agriculture display. Also, in poultry judging Hora, Ellie Bell, Madison Fishback, and Leah Evans received a bronze rating.
