Fairfield and Mount Pleasant were named the 14th and 15th safest cities in Iowa by Safewise. Fairfield moved up one spot from it’s 15th ranking last year to 14 this year. Mount Pleasant came in at number 15 after not making the top 20 last year. Safewise uses a formula that factors in population, violent crimes, and property crimes. Fairfield’s crime rate per 1,000 people was 1.55 for violent crimes, and 32.7 for property crimes. Mount Pleasant had a 1.56 violent crime rate and a 25.27 property crime rate. As a state, Iowa’s violent crime rate is 3.85 incidents per 1,000 people, compared to a nationwide rate of 4.49.
