The Washington girls’ track and field team opens up their season later today, traveling to Iowa State University for their first meet of the year.

Today’s meet is the only scheduled indoor meet of the season for the Demons, which comes a week and a half before their first outdoor meet of the season.  Unlike the boys this past Friday, only a handful of girls will run at Iowa State today.  Head coach Stefanie Haworth is excited to see what they can do.

“I’m not expecting a whole heck of a lot, just because it is so early and we haven’t even really seen them on the track yet,” Haworth said.

“We haven’t even been able to touch high jump, long jump, we only just started working on handoffs briefly [Tuesday] in practice.  So things aren’t necessarily going to be tip-top shape, but we’ll just go out there and see what we have, what we’re looking at right now, what we can do to improve on a couple things.  But yeah, I’m excited to see where we’re at.”

Today’s meet in Ames is scheduled to start at 3:00.
