Officials have identified the person who was found deceased in a burned out truck in rural Riverside. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office states 85-year-old Gerald Maye was found in the vehicle. At 12:44 p.m. Friday, dispatch received a call that there was a truck fully engulfed in flames in a driveway at 3197 Bayertown Road Southwest. The fire was north of Riverside in rural Johnson County. The Kalona Fire Department responded to the scene. An autopsy was performed and the cause of death is unknown, but the death is not considered suspicious. The incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnson County Medical Examiner with assistance from the State Fire Marshall. And the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s final report will be released at a later date.
