The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team advanced through the first round of the class 3A regional tournament, downing Mount Vernon 48-42. 

The Mustangs have hung their hat on their defense all season and they turned this one into a grind early, holding a 6-4 lead after one quarter. Mount Vernon also had a lead at the break of 20-17. Mid-Prairie righted the ship in the third quarter, getting their offense going to tie the game at 28 going to the fourth. In the fourth quarter the Hawks hit big shots and knocked down free throws to score the six point win. Shae Becker led the way with 15 points, Caitlyn Riggan had 11. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 12-9 on the year. They advance to Wednesday’s regional semifinal at Center Point Urbana where they will meet the No. 3 ranked Stormin’ Pointers who were 68-32 winners over Solon in round one.
