The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams hosted their final doubleheader of the season Friday night at Hillcrest Union in Kalona.

The IMS boys celebrated Senior Night with a win, while the girls advanced through the first round of the playoffs with a victory. In a pair of games heard on KCII, the IMS boys beat HLV 65-45. They led wire to wire, including jumping out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter on four consecutive Trevor Leyden three point goals. The lead for IMS at the half was 38-22. They put the game away with an 18-8 run that lasted the entire third quarter. Leyden led the way for IMS with 16 points, Jeremy Niemeyer added 14 and Blake Bontrager 10. With the win, IMS closes the regular season at 12-6.

The IMS girls moved through the first round of the class 1A playoffs with a 53-45 win over Iowa Valley. Things were tight in the first half with IMS up 12-9 after one quarter, but it took a Suzanna Yoder layup at the buzzer in the second quarter to tie the game at 22 going to the half. The third quarter belonged to IMS as they outscored the Tigers 18-3 in the frame allowing just one field goal while building a 15 point lead. Iowa Valley would make things interesting down the stretch, going on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter and pulling within three before IMS put the game away at the line. Suzanna Yoder led the way with 39 points. IMS is now 10-10 on the year and travels to Lynnville-Sully for the regional quarterfinals Tuesday.
