The city of Riverside will have to restart the annexation process for the Northern Heights project after missing a step. According to Washington County Attorney John Gish, the city failed to send notice to Township Trustees, which is required by Iowa state law. This missed step will cause the city to start the annexation process over. Gish admitted at the recent Washington County Supervisors meeting that the law is complex on this issue.

Riverside adopted a resolution to annex 30.5 acres of land between Tulip Avenue and Tupelo Boulevard earlier this month. Riverside City Council reached as far as approving a preliminary plat for 71 residential lots before this issue was brought to their attention.
