The Mid-Prairie High School Jazz band earned a division I superior rating at the State Band Contest for the third consecutive year. The band traveled to Burlington on Saturday to perform at Edward Stone Middle School. Band Instructor David Kunz says the students had to overcome not rehearsing for nine days due to the weather. Out of the 46 class 2A schools who participated, the Golden Hawks were one of just 16 bands to receive the division I superior rating, which is the highest to receive. The next trip for the Mid-Prairie Jazz Band is the Tallcorn Jazz Festival at the University of Northern Iowa on Thursday, February 14th.
