daffodil

Bright yellow flowers will soon be springing up in Washington with the annual Daffodil Days Campaign. Washington County Rotary Clubs are thinking spring and selling bunches of daffodils to raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Washington County and for Rotary. The funds raised are split evenly among the two groups. Rotarian Susan Wellington says the daffodils are a sign of hope, “They are a sign of spring and hope of what’s to come. About every year we’ve done a little quiz, I guess, with our Rotary members and we have everyone stand up and if they have personally be affected by cancer they sit down. If they have had a family member or a loved one, they sit down. If they’ve had a friend or just an acquaintance, they sit down. No one remains standing in the room. So everyone has been affected by cancer, somehow someone you know has been effected. So it just seems to be something that is a common theme with people and everybody wants to have hope for what’s to come.”

The flowers may be ordered from Rotarians or Relay for Life volunteers. There are three options: a bunch of daffodils for $10, a bunch and a vase for $15, or potted mini daffodils for $15. Orders must be placed by February 28th.
