The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Iowa City Saturday for a rivalry doubleheader against Iowa City Regina. 

The Regals took both contests. In the girls game the Hawks fell by a 39-26 score. Mid-Prairie’s defense played well but the Golden Hawks struggled in the offensive end shooting just 28%. Despite the cold shooting, Mid-Prairie held a 10-9 lead after one quarter and was down just 20-19 at the half. Regina outscored Mid-Prairie 19-7 the rest of the way including an 11 minute stretch where the Hawks made just one shot from the floor. Maddie Nonnenmann led the Golden Hawks with 10 points, with the loss the Mid-Prairie girls are 10-7 on the year.

The Mid-Prairie boys hung with the Regals for two plus quarters before falling by a 65-57 score. Regina took an early lead that they stretched to 20-13 midway through the second quarter. The Golden Hawks answered with an 8-0 run to take a slim lead and found themselves down just one at the break. The Golden Hawks took a brief 36-35 lead in the third quarter before the Regals embarked on a 23-4 run to take control of the game. Mid-Prairie made one final push to get within eight with an 8-0 run midway through the fourth but it wasn’t enough. Ethan Trimpe led the Golden Hawks with 23 points. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 8-8 on the year.
