A driver fell asleep and side-swiped another car on Highway 1 near Brighton Thursday morning. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:30 a.m. a blue Hyundai Sonata was southbound in the 2900 block of Highway 1 when it crossed the center line and struck a black Ford Edge. The Edge then spun 180 degrees and came to rest in the southbound ditch.

The Hyundai was driven by Ray Davis of Fairfield and the Ford was driven by a juvenile female from Brighton. Davis said that he had just gotten off of work and fell asleep behind the wheel. There were no injuries and both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Davis was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide financial liability accident related.
