The WACO basketball teams will take to the court for the first time in the new year on Friday night, welcoming Van Buren to town for a doubleheader.

The girls’ team comes in sitting at 4-7, going 2-1 in their last three games of the first half.  Clara Schmitz and Kristen Conley lead the way in points and rebounds, respectively, and each are second on the team in the category that the other one leads in.  The Warriors will have a tough test in Van Buren, who comes in at 8-2 and ranked 13th in Class 2A.

The boys are currently sitting at 7-3, which is already three wins away from last year’s total.  Nik Coble has been the story for them, as he leads the state across all classes in rebounds and is tied for third in blocked shots while also scoring over 15 points per game.  Van Buren is sitting right at .500 after losing two straight to end out 2018.

Friday’s doubleheader is set to start with the girls’ game at 6:00, with the boys to follow.
