The Washington bowling team enters 2019 with two meets under their belt, and a lot of season to go.

The boys come into the new year sitting at 0-2, but their losses came largely from the disadvantage in the numbers.  In the first meet against Sigourney, they lost the first round of individual games by 198, and by 314 after the baker scores, while playing with two less players.  The same was the case against Mount Pleasant, though the deficit was closer to 500 in total.  Head coach Chad Zear says he expects at least one more bowler to join and get going in the new year.

The girls, meanwhile, are sitting a 2-0 with a full six-person lineup.  Their meets ended in a 313-point win over Sigourney and a victory over Mount Pleasant by 555.  Senior Trista Kelly has been a spark for them, bowling single-game scores as high as 243.  Coach Zear says he’d like to see their Baker scores improve, but is happy with what they’ve brought to the table so far nonetheless.

Their first action of the new year comes on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Rose Bowl in Muscatine for the Louisa-Muscatine invitational.
