The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team captured the class 1A district 10 championship Saturday night at New London, knocking off Burlington Notre Dame 6-5.

IMS got things started early, scoring four times in the first inning, including chasing Nike ace Mitch Brent from the game after just 1/3 of an inning. Notre Dame responded with a two spot in the home half of the first leaving the game at 4-2 IMS after one. The two teams traded a single run in the third to make the score 5-3. IMS pushed across an important insurance run in the sixth to move the advantage to 6-3. After a five inning start from sophomore Drew Blauvelt, IMS called on Reggie Borntrager to get the final six outs and close the game. Borntrager rolled through the sixth inning 1-2-3, but ran into trouble in the seventh, allowing a pair of runs before Isaiah Swantz laid out in centerfield to catch the final out on a miraculous play and send IMS to substate.

Blauvelt got the win for IMS, going five innings, scattering four hits, surrendering three runs, walking one and striking out one. Jacob Boller was two for four at the plate with a pair of RBI. With the win, IMS has a 16-9 overall record. They are one win away from the state tournament and will take on No. 2 Lisbon in the class 1A semifinal at Dick Sojka Memorial Field on Tuesday.
