The Highland Husky baseball team won a thriller of a first-round match-up against Belle Plain Tuesday night by a score of 12-10.

Things were looking bleak for Highland after the first three and a half innings when Belle Plain got out to a 10-0 lead.  But the Huskies stormed back for six runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the lead 12-10.  Brady Hahn came on to pitch the final two outs for the Huskies in the top of the seventh, throwing just eight pitches and striking out one, to take the game.

It was a balanced offensive attack across the board for the Huskies, with Robert Yoder, Brody and Dan Burton all driving in two runs apiece.  Trey Lasik also went 4-4 at the plate with an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Dan Burton ended up getting the win on the mound, throwing two and two thirds innings of no-hit baseball in relief.  He struck out four and walked one.

That win advances Highland to the second round of the 1A district playoffs.  They’ll square off against another South Iowa Cedar League opponent tonight in HLV, who ended up finishing second in the conference and with an 18-6 overall record.  That one will be played in Lisbon with a 5:00 start time.
