The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Columbus Wildcat baseball teams will both be on the diamond as part of a doubleheader Saturday night in Wellman to open the class 2A district playoffs.

The Wildcats will face Pekin in game one of the doubleheader. The Wildcats enter the game with a 3-16 record on the season having beaten Winfield-Mt. Union 12-2 in five innings last game. On the year the Wildcats are hitting .239. They are led at the plate by Abel Mena with his .409 average. On the hill Columbus has a team ERA of 9.86, led by Tommy Pretz with a 3-3 record and 3.68 ERA in 26 innings thrown.

Pekin comes into the game with an overall mark of 16-5. Last game they beat Iowa Mennonite 14-7. On the year the Panthers are hitting .322, led by Tanner Bainbridge with a .478 average. On the mound Pekin has a team ERA of 2.20, led by Skyler Juhl with a 5-0 record and 2.10 ERA in 26 innings. These two teams met twice during the regular season with Pekin sweeping the series by 15-0 and 12-0 scores.

Mid-Prairie will play the second of two games tonight at home when they host Williamsburg in the opening round. The Golden Hawks come into action with an overall record of 11-15. Last time out Mid-Prairie was swept by No. 5 Wilton 6-0 and 2-0. On the season, Mid-Prairie is hitting .215, led by Brad Tornow with a .306 average. On the mound, Mid-Prairie has a team ERA of 3.81, led by Tornow with a 4-4 record and 1.79 ERA in 43 innings of work.

Williamsburg comes into the game with an overall record of 4-30. Last time out the Raiders were swept in a doubleheader by Center Point Urbana. On the year the Raiders are hitting .207, led by Josh Holub at .272. On the mound the Raiders have a team ERA of 5.83, led by Zach Steckly with a 1-4 record and 2.16 ERA in 35 innings. These teams have not met since 2010, when Williamsburg took an 8-1 win.
