A street extension and new housing development will be seen in the City of Washington.

The Washington City Council approved a development agreement at Tuesday’s meeting with David and Lisa Nacos. This development project involves construction of a street extension of South 15th Avenue between East Adams and East Madison Streets, and reconstruction of South 15th Avenue between East Madison and East Washington Streets. The project also includes addition of sidewalk, storm sewer improvements to South 14th Avenue, East Madison Street and South 15th Avenue, and other related improvements. This development includes the building of nine homes, as well as provide a connecting route between the East Creek Subdivision and East Washington Street. It also opens up to 22 acres for future development, which has been facilitated by aligning the sewer from the former Pamida building along the future road right-of-way of East Monroe Street. City Administrator Brent Hinson says the city is paying for street and utility improvements, while the developer, David and Lisa Nacos, are responsible for the platting and grading of the subdivision lots. The developer will need to present the subdivision plat to the Planning and Zoning Commission no later than September 30th.
