With the sweep of Mount Pleasant on senior night last night, the two graduated seniors on the Washington Demon softball team, Morgan Brinning and Megan Mitchell, saw their careers at home come to an end.

Brinning has been playing varsity softball at Washington for the last five years.  She spent her eighth grade year as something of a floater, and moved her way into the starting shortstop position for all four years of high school.  She set the school record for most times getting hit by a pitch in a season with 23 a season ago, and has seen a .355 batting average for her career up to this point.  Throughout her high school career, Brinning played five different sports and was named Outstanding Female Athlete at the senior awards for the Washington class of 2018.

Mitchell has been a starter on the team for all four of her years of high school.  She saw the vast majority of her time defensively come at second base, but she was moved to the outfield midway through her senior season.  She’ was also named Outstanding Athlete for Volleyball at the senior awards for her four years on the team, and was also a member of the dance team.  She currently sports a .297 career batting average on the softball diamond.

This fall, Brinning plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy at Iowa State, and Mitchell will attend the University of Iowa, start in liberal arts and sciences, and eventually apply for pharmacy school.
