“Celebrate Our Roots” is the theme of Kalona Days this year as the residents embrace how their history has shaped the community.

Local businesses will be decorated and there will be an Amish-themed photo booth, as well as a kids tent with activities including a corn pit, pony rides, and tractor pull. Kalona Chamber of Commerce Co-director Kaylin Brokaw shares why they are celebrating the community’s roots, “What’s unique about Kalona is that the Amish and Mennonite communities are still active today, even though they are a part of our history. And you don’t get that everywhere you go, that the history is still living, and so that’s what’s unique about Kalona, I think.”

Other events this year include a kid’s bike giveaway from the Kalona Optimist Club, a one-on-one basketball tournament, and live music from The Sojourners, Justin Horesowsky, Banjoy, and The Great Bluegrass Herons. KCII will be broadcasting live from Kalona Days Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as part of the Big Red Radio Summer Town Tour. To see a full schedule of events click here.
