Anyone from the City of Washington’s Ward 1 has until 5 p.m. Friday to file nomination papers to be on the ballot in next month’s special election.

The city is looking to fill the empty Ward 1 seat on the Washington City Council. The seat became vacant when Kerry Janecek stepped down in April. Candidates may pick up the forms at the Washington County Auditor’s Office and they must reside in Ward 1, the northwest quadrant of the city. Nomination petitions must be filed by the end of the day June 15th with the city clerk and include an affidavit of candidacy. The special election will be Tuesday, July 10th.
