Tax Day is less than a month away for Iowans to file federal income tax returns.

April 15th is traditionally regarded as the filing deadline, but since it falls on a Sunday this year and Monday the 16th is Emancipation Day, a Washington, D.C. holiday, people have until Tuesday, April 17th to file their taxes. The deadline to file state income taxes and extensions in Iowa is May 1, the return due date after extension is October 31. Those with an annual income of less than $66,000 can use Free File software at irs.gov to file federal income tax returns. Information on how and where to file state and federal tax returns can be found here.
