A candidate for the U.S. Congressional seat in District 2 is out of the race after submitting invalid petition signatures from Washington County.

Ginny Caligiuri’s petitions for the Republican nomination for District 2 were unanimously rejected by the State Objection Panel this week when a letter to the petitions was sent by Matthew Evans, campaign manager for Christopher Peters who is also running for the Republican nomination. According to the Secretary of State Office, Caligiuri was required to submit 1,864 nomination petition signatures total, with 2% of the Republican vote from the 2016 election in Washington County, or 124. Caligiuri submitted 133, and Evans stated that at least 14 are invalid. Of the invalid signatures, nine are duplicates or triplicates, and five are from addresses outside of the county. The disqualified signatures dropped her number to 119, not meeting the required minimum standard. Click to read the Caligiuri Objection Letter.
